When Should My Child Or Teen Have An Eye Exam?
Your child regularly visits the pediatrician and the dentist, but a comprehensive eye exam often gets overlooked.
Did you know? 1 in 4 kids have a vision problem that affects their ability to learn! Vision problems can cause poor school performance which can be mistaken for learning difficulties … putting children at risk both educationally and socially. Children should have a comprehensive eye exam at 6 months, 3 years, 5 years then once ever year until age 18.
Schedule an appointment for your child’s comprehensive eye exam. We’ll take the time to talk to you about your child’s visual development, explain vision problems and provide treatment options when needed..
How Do I Know If My Child Is Ready For Contacts?
Generally, children ages 10-12 are mature enough to handle contact lens wear. If your child is responsible in other aspects of their life they will do well with the responsibility of contact lens wear.
Wearing contacts allows kids to feel more attractive and accepted and is therefore a great motivating factor to succeed with contacts. Kids and contacts are a great match for sport and recreational activities. Contacts offer a higher level of vision unobtainable with glasses.
Daily disposable contacts are recommended because they are the healthiest and easiest contacts to care for.
Kids Need Sun Protection Too!
Your child’s glasses can come with a super cool feature like Transitions lenses that help protect young eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. Transitions lenses continuously adapt to changing light conditions. They even block 100% of the UVA/UVB rays … helping to protect eyes from harmful blue light outdoors as well as indoors while on digital devices.
